How to check Costco warehouse inventory and prices before you drive there

Costco now provides ways to check local warehouse inventory and pricing, but the information is not perfectly real-time and fast-moving items can still disappear.

Quick answer: Costco says you can use the Costco app to check warehouse inventory. Its customer-service chat can also return local pricing and availability after you select a warehouse and enter an item number or description.

Use the Costco app first

Costco's current help page specifically points shoppers to its mobile app for warehouse inventory checks. This is the lowest-effort option if you are deciding whether a trip is worth making.

For items where warehouse availability is shown, remember that a positive result is not a reservation. Someone else can buy the remaining stock before you arrive.

The customer-service route

Costco also documents a customer-service chat workflow. You sign in, provide a ZIP code or city and state, select a preferred warehouse, then search by item number or product description.

When Costco finds the item, the result can include price, availability, item number, department and a product photo.

The data has a delay

Costco says warehouse inventory and pricing can be delayed by up to 30 minutes and remain subject to change. Out-of-stock items are not displayed.

Practical implication: if the app shows only a few units of a high-demand product, do not treat that as guaranteed stock. For an expensive or hard-to-find item, calling the warehouse can still be worth the extra step.

A better way to plan a Costco run

  1. Search the app before leaving home.
  2. Use the exact item number when you have it; it reduces ambiguity between similar models.
  3. Check the local warehouse price instead of assuming a Costco.com price is the same.
  4. For limited or seasonal merchandise, re-check shortly before leaving.
  5. If the trip is long and the item is important, confirm directly with the warehouse.

Bottom line

The inventory tool is useful because it can eliminate unnecessary Costco trips and expose local pricing that may differ from Costco.com. Its main limitation is freshness: up to a 30-minute delay is enough time for scarce items to sell through.
